Zine: Uzbekistan 22.о3 — о1.о4. 2025. Janie valde |photographer & visual artist

A phone gallery is a repository of memories. Each image is a portal to the moment it was taken. The mind does not keep every moment readily accessible; instead, images become triggers for sensations hidden deep within. The more images there are, the more memories surface—until the mind becomes overloaded and the boundaries of memory begin to blur. Clarity remains only in the metadata of the photographs. Dates and timestamps return us to the objective reality of the past.

I attempted to reconstruct a trip to Uzbekistan at the end of March 2025. Photographs became the foundation of this exploration of memory. Their selection and sequence are based on the most vivid recollections. For the first time in six years, I found myself on a plane again, immersed in a completely different culture. Over the course of 11 days, I visited six cities; each day was filled with events—I could hardly process everything as it was happening.

The zine was created at the “By Memory” laboratory. It was presented at the exhibition of the same name at the Malookhtinskaya Library in St. Petersburg.
